Ingredients
- Whole milk โ 240 ml (1 cup)
- Active dry yeast โ Two packets (4.5 teaspoons)
- Granulated sugar โ 50 g (1/4 cup + 1 teaspoon)
- All-purpose flour โ 540 g (4.5 cups)
- Salt โ 1/2 teaspoon
- Butter โ 85 g (6 tablespoons)
- Eggs โ 2 large, room temperature
- Vanilla extract โ 1/2 teaspoon
- Powdered sugar โ 360 g (3 cups)
- Oil โ for frying
Steps to Donut Heaven
- Prepare the Yeast Mixture
Warm the milk to 110ยฐFโ115ยฐF (approx. 43ยฐC) using a microwave. Stir in 1 teaspoon of granulated sugar and add the active dry yeast. Let it sit for 5โ10 minutes until frothy. If it doesnโt froth, start over as the yeast may be inactive. - Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients
Melt the butter in the microwave and set aside. In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. In another bowl, whisk the room temperature eggs with the remaining sugar, melted butter, and frothy yeast mixture. Combine with the flour until a shaggy dough forms. - Knead the Dough
On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should be tacky to touch. Place it in an oiled bowl and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size. - Shape the Donuts
Punch down the dough and roll it to 18 mm (about 3/4 inch) thickness. Cut out donuts with a 7.5 cm (3-inch) cutter and the centers with a smaller 2.5 cm (1 inch) cutter. Allow to rise again for 40 minutes. - Fry the Donuts
Heat oil in a large pot to 350ยฐF (177ยฐC). Fry donuts in batches until golden brown, about 1โ2 minutes per side. Transfer to a wire rack to drain. - Make the Glaze and Finish
Combine powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to form a glaze. Dip warm donuts into the glaze and allow excess to drip off. Place back on the rack to set before serving.
Whether you eat them while warm or save them for later, these homemade glazed donuts will quickly become a family favorite. Feel free to try different glaze flavors or add toppings to customize your creation. Enjoy each delicious bite!
